MDX Notes

A plugin for Obsidian which allows users to create and edit mdx files as if they were markdown (.md) files. Does not preview MDX.

MDX (Markdown + JSX) is a file format that lets you write Markdown content but embed React components directly inside it. It acts as interactive, component-powered Markdown.

Features:

  • Registers .mdx file extension as markdown
  • Ribbon button creates .md or .mdx notes
  • File and note context menu create new .mdx notes

Compatibility

The required APIs were added in Obsidian 0.11.0, so that's the minimum required version.

How to Use

  • Press "New .md note/New .mdx note" in the side ribbon or file context menu to create an untitled .md/.mdx file
  • Select any .mdx file in the file viewer to start editing

Manual

  • Download the latest release and extract the zip into <vault>/.obsidian/plugins
  • Disable Restricted Mode if needed and enable the plugin from the Installed Plugins list.

For plugin developers

Search results and similarity scores are powered by semantic analysis of your plugin's README. If your plugin isn't appearing for searches you'd expect, try updating your README to clearly describe your plugin's purpose, features, and use cases.
