Floating Sticky Notes

Create, edit, color, and organize sticky notes stored as Markdown files in your vault.

Features

  • Create sticky-note files in a configurable vault folder.
  • Edit note content and filenames directly from the sticky-note list.
  • Assign a color stored in the note's YAML frontmatter.
  • Open notes in a popout window or the main Obsidian window.
  • Configure storage, file naming, preview, editor height, and window sizes.

Requirements

  • Obsidian 1.7.2 or later.
  • Desktop Obsidian. Popout and always-on-top features rely on desktop windows.

Installation for development

  1. Run npm ci.
  2. Run npm run dev while developing, or npm run build for a production bundle.
  3. Reload Obsidian and enable Floating Sticky Notes in Settings → Community plugins.

For a manual installation, copy main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css to <Vault>/.obsidian/plugins/floating-sticky-notes/.

Privacy

The plugin operates locally in the current vault. It does not make network requests or collect telemetry.

Development checks

Run npm run lint for static analysis and npm run build before releasing.

Releases

Update manifest.json and versions.json, then create a tag exactly matching the manifest version, such as 1.0.1 (without a v prefix). The release workflow builds the plugin and creates a draft GitHub release with main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css.
